Mark--"blood pudding lasagna"--indeed freakish. I ordered it because it was actually one of the more appealing sounding things on the menu--which might give you an idea of what I was dealing with. (There was some 'thistle oil' promised on the top--still have no idea what that was meant to be.)

It was pretty unappetizing looking too, as you might imagine. And clearly the product of a kitchen that is overreaching conceptually. But the blood pudding itself here (morcilla) is very mild--I don't know what else goes in it (tastes like a lot of onions), but it's not that deadly-rich French-style stuff. Put it between some noodles and slather some tomato jam on it, and it's inoffensive, at least--though nothing like actual lasagna.

Thanks for the sympathy, all, and to AV for the tips. I am now in Granada and ready to act on all recommendations! (Er, except that thing about the Gitanos procession--already flubbed that one.)

There has been a hell of a lot of hill-climbing, and not a lot of payoff.

Oh wait--I did find the tortillitas! More in a separate post...

Dude, welcome to Spain. What a struggle it was for us to find decent food there. And I did my RESEARCH, yo. Everything was strange and lame and super expensive, save a couple of places (one we had to climb a hill for, the reward was at the top). I thought for sure we'd have some of the best meals ever, and was disappointed over and over. Good news: all the wine is tasty. Just stick to that.

You. Must. Go. To:
Los Manueles and
Antiguas Bodegas Castañeda

both in Granada. Dead center. ABC is one of my favorites, but you have to go to the one on Almireceros and NOT on Elvira. The one on Elvira is the horrible tourist version with no flavor. The one on Almireceros is excellent for tapas, and the food there (get the tabla castaneda, or any of the hot and cold plates, or both, although usually the waiters won't let you get too much, since two people can get full on a small plate, and they will tell you that it's too much food if you order more) and the oxtail, and the empanada.

Zora, I mean Sarah, no I like Zora El Whora! I'm on the verge of tears reading this email. It brought back awful memories of a deeped fried poulet and soggy friteson my last night in Paris. Oh the disappointment in consuming the less-than-consumable in a land known for delectable consumables. My advice? Sangria. Starting at 10 a.m. Daily.

I'm still back at the glossed-0ver "blood pudding lasagna", which sounds like something the Internet Anagram Server would spit out. But you, on the other hand, did not (spit it out)?
