Another Pastry WTF in Astoria

by zora on September 22, 2008

I’m still a little bitter over the loss of the French bakery on Broadway. But I can understand it. Astoria is not a French neighborhood. And for some reason, its residents seem impervious to the use of butter and sugar in the right proportions.

But a Craiglist ad suggests that the (I thought) successful Laziza, which rocks the house with Mid East pastries, is up for sale.

At the end of Ramadan, no less, when people should be gorging themselves on flaky little delights. I always though Laziza should open a take-away window, like a pizza joint, so you could just walk up and get a few rosewater-syrup-drenched bites to go. Too late for my brilliant business advice now.

If Astoria can’t support Laziza (which means delicious, btw, and it really is, double btw), what the hell can it support? Is there some kind of anti-sweets community movement happening?

I think we need to form a CSP (Community Supported Pastry) to bring fresh, delicious buttery treats to communities whose palates have been dulled by Entenmans and their ilk.

Don’t forget, you can pay extra for a Petit Four share!

Funny, I did just read about someone who started a Community Supported Pie group…

I love the idea of Community Supported Pie! Feeling so sad about the Laziza situation. What the hell is going on????
